Thursday, 27th December | We meet at the airport at 7.25am for our Air Malta flight to Munich departing at 9.25am. On arrival at 11.45am, our coach drives us to visit the city of Ulm, known for having the church with the tallest steeple in the world, the Gothic Ulmer Münster and as the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Time for lunch (extra) and to go around the vast pedestrian area before proceeding to our 3 Star Hotel Bayrischerhof in Heidelberg for check-in.

Friday, 28th December | Our first optional half day excursion will take us on a city tour. We meet the local English speaking guide to take us around Heidelberg, the city of romance. We will explore the Old Town and admire the most interesting sights when walking through the longest pedestrian zones in Germany, seeing the Church of the Holy Spirit and admire the views of the Neckar River and the beautiful Carl Theodor Old Bridge, connecting the two sides of the river. After lunch (extra) we will board the coach for a half day optional excursion to visit the Klosterhof Brewery (extra) on the grounds of a monastery founded in 1130. The local guide will give us information about the process of organic beer making and we will taste 3 different beers (only for persons over 16 years), and nibble brezels and laugenstangen snacks. Brewed lemonade will be served to children (extra).

Saturday, 29th December | A full day optional excursion takes us to visit Stuttgart, the sixth largest German city. Our short walking tour will end in Palace Square, where we can see the Old and New Palaces. During our stay here we can stroll along the pedestrian Konigstrasse, a shopping paradise packed with a wide variety of shops for any taste. One may opt to visit on his own, the Mercedes-Benz Museum (extra). The museum takes you through a journey of more than 130 years of fascinating automotive history and on into the future. Arrangements will be done by the tour leader for those interested to visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum at their leisure. 

Sunday, 30th December | The day is free to enjoy Heidelberg or it is suggested to join the group and spend an optional full day trip to indulge ourselves in the Christmas atmosphere at the famous Europa Theme Park (extra), the fantastic Christmas Wonderland with 15 European themed areas. This world of adventure guarantees a lot of fun for all ages, offers various attractions and spectacular shows all prepared to make our day a special one. Alongside the sparkling Ferris Wheel, the unique Circus Revue and Christmas gastronomy offerings. Thousands of lights, glittery baubles and hundreds of snow-covered Christmas Trees, let Germany’s biggest theme park shine during Yuletide.

Monday, 31st December | Today we go on a full day optional excursion to Baden Baden, an “oasis of peace and relaxation”. This fascinating town with a thousand faces will bring a wide smile to yours. The Romans were the first to be drawn to the springs in the Black Forest. The old town has many worthwhile sites, and wandering the town’s quaint alleys and laneways is a perfect way to admire the Baroque architecture. We will return to our hotel and prepare ourselves to welcome the New Year 2019. Together with the locals we will gather in squares, streets, on river bridges and shores to count down the last 10 seconds of 2018. We will enjoy the fireworks display as the clock strikes midnight, with the church bells at the background, and clink glasses and embrace and kiss our loved ones and those nearby!

Tuesday, 1st January – Happy New Year 2019! | Today’s optional half day excursion with a late morning departure, will take us to the German Romantic Road town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The fact that this city is compact, it is actually a huge advantage for the tourist to see the best sights in one day. We can see the City Wall guarded by 70 towers, the iconic image of the Plonlein Corner, the Renessaince Town Hall and its dominant 61m Tower, the clock ‘Meistertrunk’ which re-enacts the 1631 event hourly starting from 11.00 am, St Jacob’s Church and the Castle Gardens. One should also taste the Schneeball, a deep-fried dough shaped like a snowball and covered  with confectioner’s sugar or chocolate.

Wednesday, 2nd January | Today’s full day optional excursion will take us to W¨urzburg, another Romantic Road town. Here we will visit the 18th century W¨urzburg Residence (extra), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will start our visit from the the Residence Square and later meet the local guide who will take us around one of the most beautiful palaces in Germany. We will admire the palace’s baroque architecture, the marvel of the beautiful staircase, the salon, the chapel and many other attractions which are real treasures. We will also visit the Hofgarten in the Residence’s grounds (weather permitting), widely considered as the best-preserved Rococo garden in Germany. We will later proceed to the city centre where we will see the Marienberg Fortress, W¨urzburg Cathedral, St Mary’s Chapel and the magnificent structure of the Old Bride above the River Main.

Thursday, 3rd January | We check-out from the hotel and drive towards Augsburg, another Romantic Road locality, where we stop en route to Munich Airport. Augsburg is one of the largest cities on the Romantic Road founded in 15BC by the Roman Emperor Augustus. It’s superb fountains, grand old guildhouses, exquisite churches and the Town Hall, combine to form a cityscape of rare intensity. We will later proceed to Munich Airport for our Air Malta flight departing at 4.35pm and arriving in Malta at 6.50pm.
